If you are successful on this course, you will emerge with the skills required to begin teaching Powerboating at RYA Schools and Clubs. The course will include presentation and coaching skills, as well as briefing and debriefing skills. Candidates must obviously be able to demonstrate all the Level 2 skills to a high standard, as well as having a sound theory knowledge. They must also be familiar with a wide range of craft. This experience would usually have been gained over five years of driving or one year of working as a full time powerboat driver.
The course lasts three days and is usually run by two RYA Powerboat Trainers, or is run by one Trainer with a second brought in on the third day. The emphasis is on how to teach the relevant skills and debrief students. Successful candidates are then qualified to teach Level 1 and 2 courses at RYA Powerboat Schools. Powerboat instructors who also hold the Safetyboat award are also qualified to teach the Safetyboat course.
