Every yachtsman (power or sail) should attend this one day course. The emphasis is on using life-rafts and the day includes a two hour practical session in the pool learning how to inflate, climb into, upright and survive in a life-raft. We also cover in the class room a wide range of other survival issues, including helicopter rescue, immersion in cold water and use of distress flares.

We hope you never need to use the skills gained on this course, but strongly believe that if the worst ever happens and you and your crew's lives depend on it, this training will be invaluable and will help to preserve life.

This course is one of the requirements for anyone who would like to commercially endorse their Coastalskipper, Yachtmaster or Advanced Powerboat Certificates of Competence. The Sea Survival Course also makes up the first component of the ISAF Offshore Race Crew training.

Part 2 of the 2 Days training required to meet the ISAF (International Sailing Associations Federation) Special Regulation 6.01

From January 2006 this is the minimum training required for all Category 2 Races. In the long run this is the best option for Offshore Racing crews.

This full requirement has three basic components-

The first component is met by the RYA Sea Survival Course, which includes a practical life raft session in the pool and firing real flares. The rest of the day is spent in the classroom discussing safety equipment, survival and rescue. You must have completed this course prior to attending the ISAF Offshore course.

This course covers the 2nd 2 components, and includes some basic first aid, weather forecasting, practical use of fire extinguishers, use of storm sails, storm tactics while racing, affixing emergency repairs and various methods of recovering one of your classmates from the water.

Although this is a shorebased course it has many practical elements and some of the course is done on board one of our yachts tied alongside in the marina.

Haslar Sea School don't run these courses "in house", however we are booking agents for several schools offering the course, and provide a vast range of available dates. We can handle the entire booking procedure for you, and can include this course as part of a package.
